Free, diffuse, semi-reverberant, pressure and ambient — every acoustic formula assumes one of them, and using it in the wrong one is why measurements disagree with textbooks.
Free, diffuse, semi-reverberant, pressure and ambient — every acoustic formula assumes one of them, and using it in the wrong one is why measurements disagree with textbooks.
Open any acoustics reference and you will meet formulas that seem authoritative and then do not match what your meter says. The inverse-square law predicts 6 dB per doubling of distance and your room gives you 2. Sabine's equation predicts a reverberation time and the measurement comes back different.
